Shopify's payment system and transaction fees

June 22, 2021

As far as I know, Shopify has more online payment processors than any other provider - over 100 providers. As you can imagine, this includes big names like Stripe, 2Checkout, PayPal or Authorize. And yes, they also have their system for Shopify payments (piggybacking on Stripe).

One of the biggest issues I have with Shopify is that if you don't use Shopify Payments, they will charge an additional transaction fee - 2%, 1% or 0.5% respectively, depending on the plan. Unfortunately, Shopify payments are not available in every country/region. Therefore, if you can, please use it.

Most importantly, manual payment methods can also be enabled. For example, cash on delivery, bank deposit or money order. Please remember that on these orders you do not pay any commission to Shopify.

Shopify Payments are currently available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong. However, there are rumours that they plan to launch the service in other countries soon.
