Shopify, for most merchants, is synonymous with what they do. So whenever possible, Shopify is always trying to find ways to do something for them to give them a better product experience and make them spend less money.
A lot of the small merchants on Shopify have a hard time getting any type of capital, banks don't want to lend to them, and even if they do get a loan, the interest rates on the loans are astronomical, and raising capital is never an easy task.
Launched in April 2016, Shopify Capital is a loan program for Shopify merchants in the US, Canada, and the UK. But it's not like a traditional small business loan, where they are required to pay back monthly installments at a fixed rate. Instead, Shopify purchases a portion of future receivables and when they make a sale, part of the proceeds are automatically transferred to repay Shopify Capital funds.
